What Dreams May Come

Last night I had this dream where I kept walking up and down a spiral staircase. Which really it seemed more like I was going in circles, getting nowhere, because I kept seeing the same dog on one of the steps. He was just sitting there with his tongue hanging out looking at me. I looked over the railing and realized that I was way up high in the open air sky. On one side, I could see a river. On the other side I saw inside of a house, the roof was missing. There were people in a bed sleeping. I have no idea who these people are. Then I continue to walk in circles on the spiral staircase.

I always am interested in what my dreams mean. My dreams have really spoken to me in the past…..literally.

Here is what I mean.

When my dad became ill back in May 1991, I was 15. He was in the hospital. The night before his passing, I dreamt that I was at school. Going through each of my classes. I was sitting in my last class of the day which was English. Another student came into my class handed my teacher a note, then she handed it to me. It read; “Please take your things and leave.” And it had a check mark on the Attendance office box. I had to leave because my father had died. End of dream.

I woke up early in the morning due to a heaviness in my chest, shortness of breath and my entire left side of my body was numb and tingly. It lasted maybe 20 seconds. I didn’t really think anything of it, got dressed and went to school.

As I was going about my daily routine at school, I realized how things were appearing as they were in my dream the night before. Again, didn’t really think anything of it, until I went to my last class of the day, which was my English class. We were sitting there reading Romeo & Juliet. A student came to our class, handed my teacher a note, then she passed it on to me.

My body went numb.

I opened the note, it read, “Please take your things and leave.” And it had a check mark on the Attendance office box.

And I knew. I knew right then and there that my father had passed away. I didn’t cry. I went straight to the office and the receptionist told me that my sister was waiting for me outside. As soon as I stepped outside, I bursted into tears.

He had passed away earlier that day. In the morning. Of a heart attack.

I learned later on, the time of his death was the exact same time when I was feeling the heaviness in my chest, shortness of breath and numbness. I’d like to think that I felt his last pain, his last moments here on Earth. His last breath. Call me crazy, but, I believe it.

For the longest time, I kept seeing the same man in my dreams. He was tall and slender. He wore a trench coat, 1930’s hat. Very ‘Dick Tracy ish’ style. He never talked. He would give me this , “follow me” look and turn and start walking. So, I would follow him. He always led me to a dead body. We would look at it, then leave. End of dream.

Every time I had that kind of dream, the very next day, I would watch the news, and there on the screen was a picture of the body, the  missing person in my dream. I had these dreams so often, that it scared me, so I finally begged God to make me not have these dreams anymore. Its been about two years since the tall, slender man has appeared in my dreams.

Two nights prior to September 11, 2001, I had the same dream of airplanes crashing into buildings. Same airplanes. Same buildings. That was all that was happening in my dream. So, the morning of September 11, I was shaken and mourned with the rest of our country.

The night before the 2004 Sri Lanka tsunami hit. I had a dream about a tsunami. I saw the people struggling in the water. I heard their cries. This dream was so intense, I could smell a horrific smell, that it woke me up to where I started to gag. End of dream. Then, the next day the Sri Lanka tsunami happened.

I can’t explain why I have these dreams that actually have happened. Only a few people know about this, but, this is something that I’ve wanted to share with others for a while. Please don’t think I’m crazy!!

Have you ever had dreams that actually happen?

What do your dreams say to you?

  1. yes, i have had dreams happen. the first time it happened, i met a little girl in my dream after hearing we were going to have a new student in our class. I was in 3rd grade. The next morning, I met the little girl in my dream. Was pretty crazy, and I dont know that I have ever said this out loud to anyone 🙂

I have felt pain or been shocked into terrible feelings at the moment I have had a friend or family member be in terrible emotional pain from loss. More than once or twice.
